This is a cast aluminum chiminea. The casting is of good quality and the coatings seem durable if somewhat inconsistent. The coatings did not peel, discolour, or smell during our first use. I am replacing the welded steel wire firegrate with a 13\" cast iron bbq grill for longevity. I made a spark arrestor for the top of the chimney using stainless steel wire mesh (5 mesh). I picked up a 9\" pizza stone to line the bottom and a pack of ceramic barbecue stones to stack around the periphery of the bottom. This allows me to use a shop vac to dispose of the ash. I may line the base with refractory cement to protect the metal from direct contact with flame. I also replaced some bolts with stainless steel M6/M8 bolts. The additons I made to this product were not necessary for use, I made them to add to its longevity. The nearest competitor with a nearly identical product csts $1200 more: I'm sure it's an excellent product, but it lies outside my budget, so this product was a more than acceptable product that is easily improved with some additions.

It has all the features I was looking for. Great quality. The packing for this heavy item was excellent.

This COULD change as I haven't burned in it yet, but my initial impression is very good. I have little knowledge of chiminea, and little to compare them to. My friend had a clay one that cracked after a few uses, so I didn't want that. And my steel fire pit rusted and developed holes after a couple of years, so I didn't want that. This product is sturdy, and the legs, body, stack, and lid are aluminum. The gate and accessories are steel. Should be very easy to maintain, and I expect many years, and maybe decades of service. Maybe I can pass it down to the kids. Price is excellent, especially when compared to other aluminum chimineas. It was bigger than I expected too

I have osteo porosis among other aging diseases, but was able to put this together correctly over the morning with a couple of breaks. Have used it for breakfasts and lunches. It is easy to clean. Ashes go into my garden. Very happy with it.
