One of the two 6 mm dia fittings IS M6 but the other, though 6 mm dia, has a different thread pitch and is NOT M6 compatible. The 5 mm dia fittings MAY be M5 dia and pitch but are they? One of the 2 x 6 mm fittings fitted my metric engine, the other did not. Is there a user manual on how to use the gauges in configutations other than inlet manifold Vacuum? E.g. petrol pump pressure / suction? What are the 8 x "O" rings and 4 tiny screws for? What is the "unthreaded" fitting used for and how?

M6 two threads are M6*1 M6*0.75. M5*0.8. The instrument can only detect vacuum. The O-ring and screws are spare. The one without thread is directly connected to the hose.

how does the gauge covers come off to calibrate the needle to zero. they seem very tight and i don't want to force them off

Take off the lens of the watch on the far right, and then adjust it with a flat-blade screwdriver.
